CDR International welcomes Mr. Haisam Daouk

As of March 1st, 2021, Haisam Daouk (MSc.) joined CDR International as a Project Engineer. In November 2020 Haisam graduated from the Hydraulic Engineering program at Delft University of Technology specializing in Coastal engineering. Haisam’s MSc. thesis looked at the impacts of boundary conditions on morphological predictions in numerical modelling. Specifically, Haisam studied the effects of infra-gravity waves on dune-erosion predictions during storm events in XBeach.
Haisam completed his BEng. in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the American University of Beirut. For his Bachelor’s project he conducted a seismic risk and vulnerability assessment of the university hospital. Haisam completed his internship with a reputable engineering consultancy firm in the Netherlands where he worked on a Port Masterplan for a project in Bangladesh. Furthermore, he conducted an internship on a Transportation Infrastructure project in Lusail, Qatar.

CDR International welcomes Mr. Stijn Dijsselbloem

As of the 1st of January 2021, Stijn Dijsselbloem (MSc.) joined CDR International as Project Engineer.
In September 2020, Stijn graduated as Hydraulic Engineer at the Delft University of Technology with the specializations of Coastal, River and Dredging Engineering. His MSc. thesis was about incorporating the wave penetration model PHAROS in the Dynamic Mooring Analysis chain. As a case study, field measurements from the outer port of La Coruña, Spain, were used for validation. During his Bachelors, Stijn did an exchange semester at the Universitat Politècnica de València and conducted his BSc. thesis in Maputo, Mozambique, were he aimed to improve the design of the wastewater treatment plant. Additionally, during his Masters, he worked on a project in Buenos Aires by investigating the feasibility of a network of marinas along the coast of the province of Buenos Aires. Lastly, an internship was conducted at a civil engineering consultancy firm in Lima, Peru, where he mostly worked on projects related to Dynamic Mooring Analyses.

CDR International welcomes Mrs. Nadine Cronjé

As of the 1st of December 2020, Nadine Cronjé (MEng) joined the CDR engineering team as a Maritime Engineer.
Nadine graduated as a Civil Engineer in 2012, whereafter she completed her Port and Coastal Engineering Master’s Degree (parttime) at the Stellenbosch University, South Africa. As part of her thesis research, she focused on developing the Namibian Port of Walvis Bay into a Southern Africa Logistic Container Cluster.
Nadine has over seven years of experience in the port and coastal engineering sector of which she was based for two years in the Middle East. She has worked in the field of port masterplanning and also gained coastal experience in shoreline erosion/accretion variations and dredging inputs into environmental impact assessment studies. In addition, she has worked in the field of port structures and residential developments. Countries of project locations she worked on include South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Kuwait.

3D Model test coastal defences residential Maiyegun each estate, Nigeria

A 3D scale model of a Nigerian beach near Lagos has been put through its paces this month in our state-of-the-art modelling hall. New coastal defences are needed where the beach has retreated at the residential Maiyegun beach estate following major development farther along the coast. CDR International, the designers of the coastal protection scheme, asked HR Wallingford in the UK to build the model to show how the proposed sea defences would influence the response of the beach.

CDR International welcomes Mr. Thieu Stevens

At the 1st of October 2018, Thieu Stevens (MSc.) joined the team of engineering experts of CDR International. After obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at the Avans University of Applied Sciences in Den Bosch, Thieu obtained his Master’s degree in Hydraulic Engineering at the Delft University of Technology. During his education, Thieu paid special attention to the design of (hydraulic) structures. He made the preliminary and detailed design for a small tunnel underneath the railway system near Assen, to obtain the Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
Thieu obtained his Master’s degree by developing a formula to predict the stability of stones in a bed protection based on the output of a Detached Eddy Simulation; including the effects of turbulence was the main challenge of his thesis, which was conducted at Deltares. In between, Thieu already gained some international experience during a multidisciplinary project about coastal protection by mangroves in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam.

CDR International welcomes Mr. Attman Kar

As of the 13th of August 2018, Mr. Attman Kar (M.Sc.) has strengthened the engineering team of CDR International as a Coastal and Marine Engineer.
Attman has graduated from the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), the Netherlands, in 2017, after completing a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, as part of the Erasmus+ Coastal and Marine Engineering and Management (CoMEM) programme. During the programme, he undertook parts of his studies as well as various projects at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway, and the University of Southampton, the United Kingdom, apart from TU Delft.
During his graduate research at TU Delft, he tested the validity of two TU Delft-developed numerical models for shallow foreshores found in the low-latitude regions of the world, by comparing numerically obtained data with laboratory-obtained data, after replicating a similar foreshore in the laboratory.
Attman has wide international and engineering interests which he has shown during his education. For instance, he spent two months at the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) and studied climate change and its impact on coastal erosion, and the development of infrastructure in the fragile Arctic region. He also took part in a multidisciplinary project in the Netherlands and explored the feasibility of connecting the town of Holwerd to the Wadden Sea.

CDR International welcomes Mrs. Jenny Pronker

CDR Jenny Pronker As from the 15th of February 2018, Jenny Pronker (MSc.) strengthens the team of CDR International as a River and Coastal Engineer.
Jenny graduated from Delft University of Technology in 2017 in Hydraulic Engineering with her graduation project on the Influence of Hydropower Dams on the Mekong Delta. In cooperation with Deltares she gained insights of the hydrodynamics of the delta system using a numerical model. The results of the research were presented at the Mekong River Commission conference of Sustainable Hydropower Development.
Furthermore, she did a research on Salt-intrusion and Sluicing Patterns in the North-Sea-Canal and Amsterdam-Rhine-Canal using a numerical model. Finally, she worked as a project engineer on the Punta Pacifica II project in Panama, where she performed activities regarding the Quality of the Sandfill.

Launching BREAKWATERHEALTHSCAN®

BREAKWATERHEALTHSCAN® is a fresh joint initiative by CDR International, Van der Meer Consulting, DEEP and SKEYE with the aim to provide an efficient all-inclusive service product in the marine and maritime industry, viz. a thorough check on the condition of breakwaters and revetments, in particular in offshore, coastal and estuarian areas. Those can be breakwaters for port entrances, but also groynes, revetments and detached breakwater structures for coastal protection. The checks and scans will be done above and under water and the results will be presented into one actual digital geometric entity. The partners are renowned globally operating companies that are adopting highest standard scanning and processing tools and procedures as well as highly specialised and knowledgeable experts and specialists in marine structures engineering.
The services will be relevant for instance for Port Authorities, Marine Contractors, Insurance Companies, Project Developers and Financiers, Marine Consultants and Land Concessionaires.
Situations that demand the services can be in case of immediate damage repair, general rehabilitation and overhaul, upgrade for new environmental conditions, expansion of the structures, adjacent developments such as reclamations against the structure, analyses if poor construction methodologies seem to be the case and maybe some design issues.

CDR International welcomes Mrs. Sophie Bockelmann

Sophie Bockelmann SQR 20170105-2CDR International has increased its engineering capacity by employing a new staff member. As from the 1st of February 2017, Mrs. Sophie Bockelmann (MSc.) strengthens the CDR International team. Sophie works as a Project Engineer on international projects.
During her 6 months internship in France Sophie has researched the Modeling and Simulation of a Tidal Energy Converter in the Somme Bay (English Channel) and the related Hydrodynamic Processes by creating a 2D Numerical Model.
Sophie has graduated in 2016 at the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany at the institute for Hydromechanics and Coastal Engineering, where she has researched the Design Possibilities of Flood Protection Walls and their optional combination with Dikes or Revetments by analyzing Factors as the Surrounding Space, Static Impacts and Geotechnical Stabilities, which reflected in the subject of her thesis.
