Netherlands – The Hague Port – Port Study for Finish Volvo Ocean Race 2018

  • 0

The Port of Scheveningen (The Hague Municipality) has been selected as finish for the Volvo Ocean Race 2017/2018. In June 2018 the finish will be at the port of Scheveningen (The Hague) and a grand festival will take place. The sailing boats will moor in the outer port, at the old northern harbour head: a vertical quay wall. CDR has been requested to study the optimization of the ability to safely moor the sailboats during the Volvo Ocean Race event and to define any necessary mitigation measures.

CDR and its partner have:

  1. determined the current (bottom) location around the old northern port head;
  2. determined the criteria and preconditions, regarding both (i) the nautical aspects, (ii) the technical (hydraulic) aspects, and (iii) the location;
  3. determined the optimal mooring configuration for the safe mooring of the ships, in view of (i) wave penetration, (ii) dredging and stability of the quay wall, (iii) navigation through the navigation channel, (iv) costs and other criteria that are forwarded;
  4. defined the necessary mitigation measures where necessary.
